ENG 2100
Narrative Persuasive Essay Guidelines and Expectations
This assignment requires that you tell me a story about yourself. A story where you were persuaded to do, say, or think a certain way. Try to focus on the “persuasion” used. How did someone persuade you to agree? Or disagree?
A few examples of this would be:
A mother persuading her child to eat a new food
A father persuading his son to chose the same career (Dad is an engineer, son becomes an engineer)
A friend persuading you to do something, you would not normally do. You persuading someone else to do something, they would not normally do.
A teacher persuading you to read your essay in front of the class, high school, or community.
A friend persuading you to spend more money on something you did not need
A company persuading you to buy something
Someone “guilting” you into doing something (coming home for Christmas, cleaning your room)
Banned Topics:
Drinking too much/ Drugs
Religion
Abortion
Gun Ownership
A few tips
When writing a Narrative it is best to think small. The idea is to describe the actual persuasion which so much detail the reader feels like they are with you (the writer) during the event. Try summarizing large chunks of the Narrative. Contribute most of the “space” to the actual persuasion.
