Introduction
P21 describes a set of standards that ensures that kids worldwide receive quality education. Their education should have 21st-century learning experiences. 21st Century learning includes concepts such as using technology in learning (Kaufman, 2013). Students are natured to become ready for life when they finish university. They should get the jobs they desire and contribute to society. The following essay covers some redesigns of a prior project with some PLO and innovation concepts of education.
Body
Modification
The project did not cover aspects of critical thinking in learning. Critical thinking is used in all aspects of life. Interactions in daily life and professional careers all require good critical thinkers. Learners should be taught through stories which ask them about their opinion. They should be given opportunities to discuss in groups or with their tutor about what they think. Given a certain situation, what will be the right course of action? As a result, learners develop good decision-making skills. These skills enable them to avoid getting into trouble in life. They also develop good problem-solving skills. The project did not cover the teaching of technology and life skills. Students should be taught current issues in the society in the life skills lessons (Sotiriou, Riviou, Cherouvis, Chelioti, & Bogner, 2016). Magazines, newspapers, and reports could be used for these lessons. This will enable them to understand more about society. Therefore, they will know what society expects of them. Small concepts about technology should also be taught to students, in addition to science subjects.
Evaluation
The use of technology was not clearly illustrated in the investigated project. Computer science and online learning were not covered. Students should be taught how to utilize technology by first learning computer science. In the current world, computers are the backbone of technology. Most jobs require some background knowledge of computers. Hence, schools should ensure students recognize the importance of learning about computers. Beginners in computer studies should have more computer practical compared to theory. By using computers, they will develop the right attitude and understand in a better manner. Online learning should be availed to all students, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic times. Students studying in rural areas need to be given more access to online platforms. They are disadvantaged compared to the more fortunate students. Most of the time, during the lockdown, these students stay idle at home. At the same time, the urban area students are continually learning using online platforms. More opportunities should be given to them to utilize online platforms. Computers should be used to enhance creativity and communication. Creativity can be enhanced through reading stories and writing essays. Students should learn to communicate through technology. This will improve the decision-making skills of both teachers and students.
Reflection on challenges
Several challenges were met during the redesign stage. Getting schools in rural areas to access technology is difficult and expensive. For online learning to commence in COVID-19, both teachers and students need access to computers or smartphones. They also require access to an internet connection which is costly. Teaching computer science to young students is difficult. This is because of the emphasis on the theoretical part. Most students have a hard time understanding new concepts they cannot see. Using magazines and newspapers to teach children life skills is not easy. This is due to students tending to read on other unrelated sections of those media.
These challenges have been overcome in the following ways. Rural schools should be donated technology that facilitates online learning by the government and well-wishers. LAN services at schools should also be provided. By doing these, they will have more experience using these new forms of technology. Computer science lessons should mainly compose of computer practical. Learners will have a better understanding because they use what they are learning about in practice. Only the required pages of magazines and newspapers should be used in teaching students in some lessons. These lessons can include literature, English, and other languages.
Conclusion
Students in all learning institutions should be taught according to 21st-century learning policy. They should be taught the importance of technology. Innovation skills and technology should also be used in teaching lessons. This will make the lessons to be more captivating and understandable. All students from these backgrounds should be given access to these new teaching methods.
