Attributes of Leadership Styles and Approaches that Facilitate Quality Supervision

Quality supervision can aid the development of professional competence and confidence since it enhances operational excellence among employees. Democratic and transformational leadership styles are key ingredients of quality supervision (Sanders, 2006). Ideally, the attributes of democratic leadership styles, which facilitate quality supervision include; keeping communication open, actively focusing on the discussion, being ready to commit, sympathizing with the occasion, respecting the ideas of others, explaining the decision you have taken, and acting ethically. Moreover, the fundamental emphasis of the transformative leadership style is to make change happen in our self, others, groups, as well as organizations. Thus, transformative leadership often entails charismatic and visionary leadership, which are both key facets of quality supervision.

Supervisory and Leadership Skills Demonstrated in the Petrakis Case Study

From the video, it is apparent that the supervisor kept open communication throughout the interaction and actively focused on the discussion by enquiring more on how the client could be helped. Besides, the supervisor was ready to commit to the issue by suggesting that they should call the APS. This indeed was an outstanding remark. It is also evident that the supervisor sympathized with Cindy by comforting her to take the matter easy. The supervisor respects the ideas of others by the fact that she assured Cindy that she is not liable for the actions taken by other individuals. Subsequently, the supervisor allowed change to happen in Cindy’s perception of the matter by construing a teachable moment from Helen’s case. Beyond doubt, the supervisor is an ethical leader based on the fact that she condemned Cindy’s advice to the client, which was ideally not a good move. Most importantly, the supervisor is charismatic and exposes visionary leadership from the fact that she quickly moved to the next steps that were supposed to be executed that day, immediately after the discussion. The above attributes directly indicate that the supervisor is a democratic and transformational leader.

Demonstration of Quality Supervision by the Supervisor in the Video

Owing to the positive leadership characteristics exposed by the supervisor, it is apparent that she demonstrated quality supervision. Evidently, the supervisor manifests servant leadership skills in which she has high conceptual and ethical skills due to the manner in which she offered advice to Cindy, which was undeniably very professional. By sympathizing with Cindy, the supervisor exhibited exceptional emotional healing skills, which later enabled her to empower Cindy emotionally. In addition, the supervisor helps her subordinates to grow by putting their issues first before her own agendas of the day. Based upon the aforementioned facts, it is apparent that the supervisor indeed demonstrated quality supervision skills.
