Small Business Dilemma, page 255, text

Read the case and write an executive summary on the case, including answers to the following two questions.

Assessment of Prevailing Spot and Forward Rates by the Sports Exports Company

As the Sports Exports Company exports footballs to the United Kingdom, it receives British pounds.  The check (denominated in pounds) for last month's exports just arrived.  Jim Logan (owner of the Sports Exports Company) normally deposits the check with his local bank and requests that the bank convert the check to dollars at the prevailing spot rate (assuming that he did not use a forward contract to hedge this payment).  Logan's local bank provides foreign exchange services for many of its business customers who need to buy or sell widely traded currencies.  Today, however, Logan decided to check the quotations of the spot rate at other banks before converting the payment into dollars.

1.  Do you think Logan will be able to find a bank that provides him with a more favorable sport rate than his local bank?  Explain.

2.  Do you think that Logan's bank is likely to provide more reasonable quotations for the spot rate of the British pound if it is the only bank in town that provides foreign exchange services?  Explain.

Leadership Style Reflective Essay

Conscious leadership is described as loyal and caring individual. A good leader should be caring, humble and loyal while managing others. Most people will always repel way from leaders who do not show loyalty and humility in their leadership. The conscious leader does not criticize the employees but tries to teach them how the task should be done (Panadero, Jonsson, & Botella, 2017). The employee will not only improve their performance but also respect their leader. Conscious leaders will also hold a monthly or weekly meeting to evaluate the performance of employees and give recommendations. Servant leadership and conscious leadership differs in that servant leadership is categorically based on people and its people-oriented as well as providing service to the people; but, conscious leadership entails inspiring others while reminding them off their responsibilities and duties in the organization. The qualities of conscious leadership include self-awareness, emotional approach, wisdom, compassionate approach, and leading with humility.

Self-awareness Comment by Wanda Lewis: No extra spacing before or after heading

Self-awareness helps in deciding whether a leader will be effective in a defined leadership role. Leaders become aware of themselves, and as a result, they understand their purpose and lead efficient (Panadero, Jonsson, & Botella, 2017). More so, self-awareness helps a lead find a sense of self-worth and the ways their emotions impact their effectiveness as the leaders. Similarly, leaders become aware of other's emotion; thus, relate to their feeling as they lead.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is described as the ability when people manage themselves. A person who can control their attitude have the best relationships in the organization. At the workplace, emotional intelligence is essential because leaders need to control themselves before they manage others (Ward, 2018). Through emotional intelligence, leaders are in the right position to identify their weakness and strengths to control others. Therefore, conscious leaders must have the sense of emotional intelligence, self-concept, and self-awareness to function as a whole.

Results from the Learning Style Assessment Comment by Wanda Lewis: No extra spacing prior to a heading

Learning style assessment enables me to choose the best leadership style that fits my ability. The learning style assessment outline that I have a multimodal learning preference. Multimodal learning style means that I am a flexible in the way I receive information. My performance for write and write, kinesthetic, aural, and visual was 17 for the two leadership styles. Application of different methods at times makes it difficult to adjust to various learning styles (Ward, 2018). Individuals with multimodal preferences should have same material at their disposal. In most cases, when I study, I usually need pens, audio, pencils, notebooks, recordings, and textbooks to learn comfortably. The result I get from the learning style represents me as a conscious leader. Therefore, I will effectively use the technique to help others by improving their ability as a leader.

Results from the Rokeach Values Survey Assessment

The conclusion I gathered from the value's assessment outlined 17 terminal value as well as 17 instrumental values. The value makes me identify the things that are essential in my life and ones that are not. The result from Rokeach values survey assessment shows that my terminal values are of more significance for me (Spears et al. 2016). Terminal value usually talks about oneself and who they are. Instrumental values are based on the goals and how to achieve them in life. I typically use more than one technique while learning. Therefore, the study does not represent me as a leader. Consequently, I will become a conscious leader while leading others (Ward, 2018). Moreover, I will also teach my people the importance of terminal and instrumental value in the workplace. As a Christian, my values founded and impacted by religious beliefs in my life.

Diversity Assessment: Cultural Competence Self-Test Comment by Wanda Lewis: No extra spacing before or after heading

The diversity assessment showed that I do not advocate for values, and beliefs that improve cultural competence at the workplace. The study does not represent me as a leader. I believe people have different values, attitudes, and beliefs (Betancourt et al. 2016). My practices and habits are associated with my beliefs, and that's who I am as an individual. Therefore, I would like people to embrace what they believed. People have a different belief, and that does mean they are wrong or lacks value. People who do not live upon their values end up living upon the values of the others; as such, a conscious leader should be aware of cultural competence in the workplace.

Personality Test Comment by Wanda Lewis: No extra spacing before or after heading

The personality test showed that I have the protagonist personality. I am a natural-born leader who finds pleasure in inspiring others. The protagonist also takes a big deal in the pride and joy for helping others reach their goals. I am a firm believer in the people and not afraid to stand for the people (Frankel, & PGCMS, 2019). The test also showed that I always develop emotional hypochondria whereby I see other’s problem in me and try to fix myself when I am fine. The assessment represents me as a conscious leader, and when such an event occurs, I will assess myself by differentiating the two occasions.

Insight and Significance of Assessment Comment by Wanda Lewis: No extra spacing before or after heading

Self-assessment has helped me to see myself in a different limelight. As an individual, I treat people differently based on their values and am no longer judgmental. About group behaviors, I listen to everyone's viewpoint, give advice, and communicate when it comes to interpersonal relationship. Respect is paramount while managing other; therefore, in the process, I use a different leadership style to reach the need of everyone. Another thing I have learned is that Self-awareness helps me to manage others.
