Twenty years ago which is 2000, most stores still used the traditional storefront model. Customers come to the store to choose their favorite products, check out, and go home. This traditional business model has lasted for hundreds of years, but this time, the emergence of the mobile Internet may permanently change this tradition.

The birth of e-commerce depends on the rise of the Internet. When human beings were able to shop through the Internet for the first time, that moment marked the birth of e-commerce. You can go to the website of your favorite store to select goods, add to the shopping cart, check out, and wait for the goods to be delivered to your home. This kind of shopping is quick and convenient, and it quickly became popular among young people. Seven years later, the birth of the mobile Internet accelerated the development of e-commerce. When the first iPhone went on the market and became popular, it undoubtedly became a catalyst for online shopping. Mobile Internet allows people to do business and purchase goods on the Internet all the time. The traditional store model has been greatly challenged. Online shopping not only saves time, but for sellers, it can also save rent costs and lower the price of goods (Z. Jiahong, et al, 2014).

With the rise of new technologies such as big data and cloud technology, e-commerce has become more and more mature. Through big data, it is possible to analyze the data of each customer, find the customer's consumption habits, rank and classify them, so as to effectively advertise them. When you buy a pet, the shopping site can quickly push you pet supplies and food advertisements. Although this brand new customized advertising service has always been controversial (mainly user privacy), it sometimes brings great convenience to customers (W. Huang, 2009). For merchants, through cloud computing and big data analysis, they not only dig out business information from massive data, but also greatly increase the revenue. For example, many large e-commerce companies, such as Amazon and Alibaba, have developed rapidly in the past decade through such technologies and have become leading e-commerce companies.

With new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the future of e-commerce will become more complex, the industry will be more segmented (Y. Huang, et al, 2019), and continue to erode the share of traditional business models. The future of mobile e-commerce is brighter.

One of the facts that cannot be overlooked is that technology keeps on advancing, and so is the world. As technology advances, people are continuing to learn new ways they can use to share information concerning various issues that affect their lives. This brings us to the issue of information systems infrastructure. Many organizations have taken advantage of their information systems infrastructure to be where they are today. However, the use of these systems is expected to continue growing because many organizations and people have known how important they are. There are many future trends in information systems infrastructure. I will select two of these, which I will discuss in this discussion.

The first future trend in information systems infrastructure is the creation of wearable devices that people can use to communicate. According to Gil Gómez, Arango Serna & Oltra Badenes (2018), people look at their phones for at least 150 times per day. They do it while making phone calls, listening to music, and chatting on social media. Wearable technologies keep on evolving, and in the future, they are expected to continue improving. We already have one of these technologies, and it is called Google Glass, and it is worn on the eyes just like a pair of eyeglasses. This is just an impression of how the future of information systems infrastructure is going to look like (Bryant, 2018).

I have already mentioned social media on the first but, I would like to discuss it as a trend of its own. We will all agree that social media has evolved over the past few years, thanks to technological advancement. Almost everyone in society today owns a smartphone, which he or she uses to interact with friends and family members on social media. Social media is going to take over the field of information systems due to its impact on people’s lives and business activities (Oltra Badenes, R. F. (2018).

WEEK 8 - Discussion 8

by Angela Christian

Progress and advancement in technology have provided many benefits and advantages to all kinds of organizations. Retail organizations are also greatly impacted by e-commerce and mobile computing and have many advantages over traditional business.

E-Commerce is online retail where customers can buy, and organization can sell their products over the internet. I want to recommend a retail company to build an online e-commerce website to sell their product online. Online retail business or e-commerce has many great advantages, which will help this traditional retail entity expand its business. An online e-commerce website can access by the user from any corner of the world via the internet. This opens up a great opportunity and customer base for the company. The company is facing a business decline due to heavy competition in their local area. Expanding business geographically company can have more customers, more orders, and more sales and revenue. Apart from that, it can provide old customers with many advanced services as well. It is straightforward to compare prices online. The company does not need to open a new store in a different geographical location. Companies can maximize the use of their inventory and warehouse. The company can start selling a product online and provide goods delivery to the limited places at the initial stage and can later expand its operation (Niranjanamurthy et al., 2013). Once the company can establish an e-commerce website, the company can create a mobile application and leverage mobile computing benefits. Mobile with the internet allows users to shop any time without going to store or limitation of accessing a computer with internet.

Once the company sets up an online website or mobile application; it can invest in digital marketing. Companies can promote themselves as a business over the internet to provide online service to their existing customers and catch new potential customers' attention. The company can use search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is an important part of digital marketing, and if used the right way, it helps generate and gather quality and quantity traffic towards your website (Enaceanu, 2010). SEO requires very little investment and is autonomous and self-funded once set up properly. Apart from the search engine, the company can also do marketing on social media and promote their website and make it visible to attract more customers. Many social media like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest provide a platform for the business to target a specific audience. An audience looking for some particular products or being interested in knowing more about it.

The retail company has established an e-commerce website and mobile application and is doing the right digital marketing and generating quality internet traffic towards its website. With all this technological support, the company gathers valuable data regarding its customer, products, business, and market. The company has a better hold of its data. The company can use this data by implementing data analytics practice and gaining valuable insights and better visibility over the business. The huge amount of data collected by companies is known as Big Data, and data analytics can extract valuable insights from Big Data to thrive and progress. Companies can use Data visualization to understand past data and predictive analytics to predict future trends. Specifically, in the retail industry, the company can use big data analytics and can perform cost optimization by insights derived from data and generate optimum price for a product, Customer segmentation, and targeting by dividing similar customer into a group and implementing a specific strategy for them, Inventory management, Customer sentimental analysis by assessing customer feedback (Ridge, Johnston & O'Donovan, 2015). More advanced technology like machine learning and artificial intelligence provides cutting edge and timely information delivery and accurate decision-making guidelines.

This way, Traditional companies can utilize e-commerce and mobile computing advantages and sustain themselves in the industry for a longer period.
