People should not send elders to nursing home
When people are getting old, many child will send them to nursing home because some factors. Such as they have not time to take care of the elder; they think nursing home have good medical system to help elders when they have troubles. Those people usually ignore what elders need. Maybe some of them are really want to help the elders. But in fact, they just hurt elders. Also, they are have problems of nursing home. For example, cost, personal status, communication and quality. Therefore, nursing home doesn’t showing us the best place for elders, and do not send elders to nursing home may be a good decision for elders.
Nursing home is a private residential institution equipped to care for persons unable to look after themselves, as the aged or chronically ill. Having good environment, professional system, and complete medical equipment. But the cost is also high. The price is $350-$400 per day for each one. Every month is $10500-$12000. That’s true, but just for some people who have to work in government, such as they have to work in school, bank or hospital for a long time. And then, government will pay all of the money until they die. For lots of people, government will pay a little for them or never pay for them. In expensive nursing home, every nurse need to take care of 5-8 patients; but in cheap nursing home, every nurse need to take care of 15-20 patients. If we separate the time, every patient has only 1.5-2 hours get caring by nurse. The time isn’t enough for any elders. Funny is the reason of sending elders to nursing home is that people have not enough time to take care of the elders. Also, having not enough time to take care of child would never be a reason to make people send their child to some place where like nursing home. When people decided to send the elders to nursing home. They have only see what good are for elders, and they would avoid seeing what bad are for elders. That would hinder people making correct decision. So, people should not send elders to nursing home base on cost and caring time.
The second reason to send the elders to nursing home is that nursing home refer an opportunity to elder having friends. Having same topic could make people be a friend as quick as possible. According to book “Can’t we talk about something more pleasant?” by Roz Chast. She wrote what happened when her parents went to nursing home. “I’m sorry. These sears are all reserved.”(130) one old woman said. Chast parents were crowded out by others. Maybe chast’s parents had some problem by themselves, but who doesn’t have not problems when they are old. Many people think living in nursing home is a change for their parents to make some friends. All of us are having many friends, but we do not having many real friends. We know friends are very important for us, and we know how hard it is to get real friends. Elders have not enough energy to make friends, to understand each other and finding their best friends out. Also, in South Cove Manor at Quincy point Rehabilitation Center, they decided seats for every patients, and the seats is stationary. Patients have to listen to nursing home, they have not enough freedom in nursing home. So, people should not send their parents to nursing home base on it is hard for elders to have friends in nursing home.
Harding to find friends not only a problem for elders in nursing home, but also personal status would be another problem in nursing home. Elders have to face others elders all the day, but this isn’t good for elders living. Sometime, the usually topic between in elders is their family, and what they did in their life. Every time, when they are talking others about that, in which elder would feel sad. Because all of things for them are gone. The family left them, the dream are gone, the happy are gone, they are losing more than they are getting. And the nursing home is an interesting place where could make elders to talk their life. So, if elders cannot control their emotion very well, that would hurt themselves in anytime. Such as when they hear their friends are dying in nursing home. That would probable influence elders, some of them will think who is next? Am I? Elders would not living well when they have any thinking like that.
The final reason to explain why should not send elders to nursing home is that nurse or doctor would hurt elders. Being a nurse is a job, that very different with volunteer. Volunteer would not get any things back, because they do everything base on their love. Nurse and doctor are job, and no one require them have to giving love for every patients. So we have been heard many news or seeing many video about nurse or doctor beat patients. Although it doesn’t usually happen. But it already happened. So, no all of nurse and doctor are safety for elders. And we have not ideal about who is good nurse, because every awful video are recorded in secret shoot. If sending elders to those people, it means die. Maybe it is awful rather than die.
Some people send elders to nursing because they love elder and they have not enough time to take care of elders, also they hope elder have good medical system; some people think elders will feel happy when they are meeting new friends. Anyway, they are loving elders. But they don’t understand what elders are need. They only seeing what nursing good is for elders, do not seeing what nursing bad is for elders. That’s would bring hurt for elders. Also, elders need more love from their family, not stranger. So, people should not send elders to nursing home.
