By this time you have given your story some serious thought as it relates to the elements of fiction so far discussed in the course. But theme may still be eluding you, may be overpowering, or may be too subtle to detect.
For this prompt, list 2–3 themes that you have identified in your short story, how you see the writing supporting this thematic direction, and any successes or challenges you have encountered while reflecting upon theme in your writing.
This week’s assignment has 4 parts, so read carefully. You will begin as usual with your instructor assigning, or allowing you to choose from the following list, one designer/brand/fashion house that started between 2000 and 2009 to research.
You will include all listed topics for Part 1 (read carefully, since there are two extra added) and then choose one designer/house from your Dossier so far to do a “tech update” for.
Part 1: Create a dossier on your designer. The dossier should include:
· A brief biography and photograph of the designer—including such items as nationality, birth date, death date, upbringing, education, and career beginnings.
· Inspirations and influences from history, trends from the time period, and art movements, which are apparent in the collection(s) of chosen designer/brand/fashion house. How did the designer fit in with the “Spirit of the Times”?
· Muses that inspired or reflected the style of the chosen designer/brand/fashion house.
· Years of glory and major breakthroughs, including new and innovative or signature construction techniques, fabrics, and designs adopted by the designer/brand/fashion house.
· Obstacles the designer/house/brand encountered, and how they did or did not overcome those obstacles.
· Designers or business owners who followed the original designer at a house founded in their name, and dates of their tenure, AND/OR other companies that the designer has worked for.
· Discuss the designer's/brand's/fashion house's collection(s) use of:
· Silhouettes (line and shape)
· Fabrics, including color and texture
· Mood or theme reflected in designer's/brand's/fashion house's collection(s).
· Identify the audience and target market for this designer/brand/fashion house.
· Marketing strategy adopted by the designer/brand/fashion house, such as celebrities' endorsements/relationships, ad campaigns, branding, promotional approaches, licensing, etc., under designer's name.
· Awards
· Include five or more images to illustrate the designer's/brand's/fashion house's creations from the period 2000-present. Label each image with the approximate date that the garment was made.
Part 2: Tech Update Choose one designer/brand/fashion house from the first 4 in your Dossier; making sure that the company you choose is still in business now. For this update, address the following questions about the house:
· Who is the current designer for this house?
· Who owns the house/name of the designer?
· What sort of online presence does this company have, and are what types of social networking are they using for merchandising their products?
· Identify and evaluate any other new technological or new media approaches being used by the company for marketing or merchandising.
Add your updates for these topics to the end of your Dossier for the chosen designer/brand/house.
